Follow the Spirit and Let
Miracles Light the Way

Dear David,

I find myself in conflict, like I'm being asked to renounce the world. I've met some people who appear to be fully renounced and living in the truth of what we all are eternally. Part of me would very much like to have complete faith and know that I will be taken care of. I am very attracted to the idea of being able to just do God's work and know that it is God's work. Some days I have that sense of not being alone and of having a loving presence caring for and supporting me. Other days I'm like a rat in a cage and am beating myself up for not doing better in the world. I seem to flip very quickly. I know which perspective feels better! I feel I am still too caught up in the world's story to
renounce. But I also feel like I'm being asked to give it up. I bought the Course only 18 months ago; I wasn't quite expecting it to look like this! I'd be grateful for any guidance, advice on this matter. Do you have to renounce this world completely, give it all away, in order to really know the peace of God?

Hello Beloved One,

Thanks for your expression of gratitude and your willingness to address what's on your mind. The short Answer to your question is "yes." Yet it is very important to allow the Holy Spirit to Guide you step by step toward this renunciation experience, because the ego has its own version of renunciation. Without careful mind training the Light within will be feared as It is approached. Miracles save time by collapsing time and thus eliminating fear. There is a
quote from the Course that sheds light on the ego's versions of renunciation. These errors must be exposed as nothingness for authentic Awakening to be experienced:

"Many have chosen to renounce the world while still believing its reality. And they have suffered from a sense of loss, and have not been released accordingly. Others have chosen nothing but the world, and they have suffered
from a sense of loss still deeper, which they did not understand.

Between these paths there is another road that leads away from loss of every kind, for sacrifice and deprivation both are quickly left behind. This is the way appointed for you now. You walk this path as others walk, nor do you seem
to be distinct from them, although you are indeed. Thus can you serve them while you serve yourself, and set their footsteps on the way that God has opened up to you, and them through you.

Illusion still appears to cling to you, that you may reach them. Yet it has stepped back. And it is not illusion that they hear you speak of, nor illusion that you bring their eyes to look on and their minds to grasp. Nor can the truth, which walks ahead of you, speak to them through illusions, for the road leads past illusion now, while on the way you call to them, that they may follow you. All roads will lead to this one in the end. For sacrifice and deprivation are paths that lead nowhere, choices for defeat, and aims that will remain impossible. All this steps back as truth comes forth in you, to lead your brothers from the ways of death, and set them on the way to happiness."
W-155.4-7

The Awakened Mind trusts in God for everything, and there are no lingering concepts of time to cast their shadows. To renounce the world is to be free of every scrap of ego thinking. This is an obvious conclusion once it is apparent that there can be no exceptions to truth. Renunciation is a seeming change in
thinking, from attempting to think apart from God to thinking in alignment with God. This transformation does not involve joining a group or leaving a society, but it does involve letting go of all concepts of time. The perceived world is built on concepts that God did not create, and thus the mind which has been emptied of all specific time concepts can finally embrace the final all-inclusive
concept: Atonement. Atonement can be equated with detachment, for the final Correction has no investment in a dualistic time bound self-concept which God did not create.

Let the Holy Spirit convince you that there is nothing real that has to be given up. Miracles light the way. Since God creates Spirit, and Identity is eternal Spirit, the illusion of giving up the thinking of the world cannot be fearful. It is fearful indeed to believe in the reality of the world, for this is the attempt to make a self apart from Spirit. In truth this is impossible, for there is nothing apart from Spirit. Because Spirit has no opposite, the dawning of Spirit in awareness is simply inevitable.

The Holy Spirit will Guide the mind very specifically while the mind believes in specifics. This is good news, for at every seeming turn in the maze of time there is the ever-present Comforter available to Guide and Answer and Bless. Trust in the miracles of Joy and be not tempted to compare or contrast persons, groups, places, or things. The Truth of our Being will dawn of ItSelf. God is remembered in the Divine Silence beyond the concepts and images.
You are perfect exactly as you are. :)

Renounce the world is just another way of stating Embrace the
Spirit. All Glory to God for creating Spirit as One!

Love,
David

Jason Warwick and Michael Caruana have joined forces to tape a series of spontaneous interviews with the community members in Utah. This is a wonderful interview with Frances Xu, the newest member of the Messengers of Peace, titled Dissolving the 'I', where Frances shares her stories of her recent miracle trip to China.

Following My Heartsong
By Elf Wallent

About six months after following the Spirit's prompt for me to move to Yowrie in the beautiful Bega Valley, I joined the exquisitely lovely Heartsong Choir. It was formed about 9 years ago by Geoffrey Badger, whose passion was and is the singing of Sacred Music in parts, but with the sound of One Voice. We sing lots of Latin and don't mind if we never give a concert. With one exception, every choir to which I've previously belonged has rehearsed for performance. Many of Heartsong's fifty members are Atheist, Agnostic, Raj Nishi, Buddhist or other, and like me, cannot read music, yet the sound we make brings tears to the eyes of our conductor as well as to those who listen, including ourselves.

It was last week when one of our Basses asked Geoffrey if he had a cure for Earworms, and afterexplaining the term, our conductor told us that there was no cure. Earworms are the small phrases or lines of a piece which stay in one's ears/head after rehearsal and refuse to leave.  So, I thought, I'm not alone. That's why the earworm from Mendelssohn's Elijah with its sweet tender melody, "Then in a Still Voice, onward came The Lord" still fills my heart with love after forty years. That's why "Oh what a foretaste of glory divine" still gives me joy fifty years after the Billy Graham choir was disbanded. The earworms, however which I have 'hosted' since joining Heartsong are so affirming for the journey I'm on now, that they are Miracles for which I constantly give thanks. "I will not leave you comfortless, Alleluia" is one, "If ye love Me, keep My commandments" is another and "Adoramus te, Jesu Christe, Alleluia, Alleluia" is another.

The last of these is one of our warm-up chants, and sets a reverent yet joyous tone for the evening's rehearsal. Two others which I treasure are "And I will ask the Father that He may send another Comforter"  and "I go and come again, and your heart will rejoice, your heart will rejoice!"

We at the Yowrie community have recently been blessed by the gentle loving presence of one of the Messengers of Peace, Jason Press. He mentioned that he was looking again at The Principles of Miracles, so I took that cue to re-read them. Numbers 25 to 31 were so relevant to my learning at present, but Number 29 and 30 in particular;

"Miracles praise God through you. They praise Him by honoring His creations, affirming their perfection. They heal because they deny body-identification and affirm spirit-identification." T-1.I.29.

"By recognizing spirit, miracles adjust the levels of perception and show them in proper alignment. This places spirit at the center, where it can communicate directly." T-1.I.30.

This is how I feel about Heartsong and its Earworms which I happily host for ever and ever. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

With much love and gratitude, Elf.

Messengers of Peace
David and the Messengers meet with those who desire to discern between the ego's thought system and the Holy Spirit's purpose of forgiveness. Acknowledging that truth is in the Mind, they offer an invitation to engage in the uncovering of the beliefs that seem to obstruct the awareness of love's presence. The Messengers of Peace serve as mighty companions for each other and recognize that awakening is not a casual endeavour, but one that demands a deliberate and uncompromising commitment. The depth of devotion and faith reflect their willingness to question all assumptions. Total transformation of the mind is approached with passion, devotion, and a burning desire from within. This is their unified goal and purpose.
